I am Jaime Figueras and this is my story.
In 1988, I was born in La Habana, Cuba. Nine years later, my family was lucky to win a visa lottery that allowed us to live in the U.S. legally. We have seen firsthand how leftist policies take power away from the people, and leave you in a far worse condition than you were before.
I am Republican because I believe that the correct way to drive society forward and raise the standard of living for all is through sound fiscal policy.
On the night we arrived from Cuba, a relative picked us up at the airport, and took us on a tour around Miami to visit relatives who we hadn’t seen in years—many of whom I’d never even met. One of our relatives was working as a cashier at the small grocery store chain, Sedanos. When I walked into the store I was stunned, not because I hadn’t seen her in years, but because I had never been in a grocery store that actually had food on the shelves. At that moment I realized that the friends and life we left behind were worth the wealth of opportunity that lied ahead.
The work I do for the Republican Party is incredibly important to me. I think that we should all get involved first hand in the causes we believe in. No one person has the same life experience as anyone else, which means that we all have our unique perspectives on the world around us. Let’s use that to move ourselves and our country forward.
